Paul earned his BFA from Washington University in St. Louis, where he graduated from The School of Design & Visual Arts.
Since about ten years Theo Jansen is occupied with the making of a new nature. Not pollen or seeds but plastic yellow tubes are used as the basic matierial of this new nature. He makes skeletons which are able to walk on the wind. Eventualy he wants to put these animals out in herds on the beaches, so they will live their own lives.

The Animaris Rhinoceros Transport is a type of animal with a steel skeleton and a polyester skin. It looks as if there is a thick layer of sand coating the animal. It weighes 2. tons, but can be set into motion by one person. It stands 4.70 meters tall. Because of its height it catches enough wind to start moving.

From those entries, the judges had the truly difficult task of selecting the award-winning entries.

Tana Goldberg, Director of Communications for Solomon Schechter Day School of Greater Boston, worked directly with the design team at Sands Creative Group. “The Annual Report is fabulous, exactly how we envisioned it.” reports Goldberg, “Thanks to everyone who worked so hard on this. It’s nice when our efforts are recognized by other professionals.”

Rick Sands, President and Creative Director of Sands Creative Group, stated that “our lead designer, Chris Dwyer, really captured the vibrancy of the school. His bold presentation really accentuated the positive impact the school has on its students and their families.”

The firm’s nine years in the industry and an expansion of its client base have encouraged growth and a new office facility.

“We are anxious to open our doors and expand our services,” says creative director and founder Ben Robinson. Robinson, a native Texan, has lived in Southlake almost as long as his business has flourished. After working as senior art director and creative director for such companies as Shapiro Small Agency, Madden Marketing and Design, Fitz and Floyd and the Nelson Group, Robinson demonstrated great promise and collected many design awards. In fact, several of his clients urged him to form his own company. “My clients followed me and I felt I owed them a more personal approach I couldn’t offer while working for other firms.” It is this dedication to a more individualized attitude that has earned the company long standing clients. Robinson states, “My clients trust me and I personally ensure we handle their account properly. We also have excellent referrals that continue a steady stream of new business.”

With the move to larger offices and the Southlake Town Square location, Robinson Creative is primed to continue with current clients and develop into more varied arenas. The company’s current services cross over into retail, real estate, medical, corporate and entertainment. Clients have included Lane Company- Atlanta, Riverstone Residential (formerly Trammel Crow), Palm Beach Tan (200 stores nationwide), Chicago Title Flood, Berg Productions, Meeks + Partners, Lawrence Films, Western Rim Properties, Medtronic/Midas Rex, Fairfield Residential, CNC Investments and others. The company has earned numerous awards and designations such as The McSam Award, Telly Awards, Houston International Film Festival, Addy Awards and Pillars of the Industry Awards. This month, Robinson Creative is honored to receive a 2007 Silver Telly, the highest honor for Direct Marketing and a 2007 Bronze Telly, for outstanding achievement in Sales, for audiovisual presentation.

One of the reasons the company is so diverse in its services is the fact that its founder’s background is also diverse. Growing up in Houston, Ben Robinson attended the celebrated High School for Performing and Visual Arts and Baylor College of Medicine’s High School for Health Professions. While attending The Art Institute of Dallas he was employed as a phlebotomist at a specialized research hospital. This interesting combination of design and medical professions opened opportunities for future Robinson Creative clients in the medical industry. Robinson’s background also includes fashion illustration freelancing for Chanel and Neiman Marcus. At the young age of 21, fashion led to his first staff position in retail as creative director of a department store chain. He returned to Dallas and advanced to senior art director for Fitz and Floyd, a tabletop giftware company. Robinson continued working in advertising design while being employed as creative director for other advertising agencies. In 1998, after the urging of several clients, Robinson started his own design firm.

Currently, Robinson Creative provides advertising, marketing and promotion services for a variety of industries. The company offers services such as print advertising, radio and television media, in-store audiovisual presentation, web presence, point of purchase, collateral, corporate image, environmental signage and identity.

The new location for Robinson Creative positions the design firm in the center of the Dallas Metroplex, allowing the company a location that accesses the entire Dallas/Ft. Worth area as well as servicing clients outside the state. Robinson Creative also maintains a satellite office in Los Angeles and its growing staff includes graphic artists, web experts, real estate professionals and audiovisual personnel.

Portland, OR, Ryan Graphics, Big Tricks for Small Budgets, has just received multiple awards from the 4th annual International award competition sponsored by Portfolios.com. Portfolios.com is a well known website in the creative industry. An online source for creatives to showcase work samples, search the job bank, and enter the annual award competition. Portfolios.com advertises in high-end graphic design magazines and partners with other design-related websites.

Ryan Graphics is honored to receive a Bronze Award for it’s “Hawaiian Historical Print Society” logo and two Merit Awards for it’s “Moose and Monkey” and “Skyward Merchants” logos. The Hawaiian Historical Print Society logo was completed for a local client located in Vancouver, WA. This logo was for an artist with a collection of reproduced, antique Hawaiian paintings. The Moose and Monkey logo was completed for a client in California with plans to launch an online retail website selling whimsical home decor. The third logo, Skyward Merchants, was completed for a client in North Carolina. This client is a full-time pilot that also had an online retail website selling aviation supplies. Ryan Graphics goes above and beyond to develop unique identities for each client. “I am so pleased with this news and to actually receive multiple awards from one competition was beyond my expectations,” said Laurie Ryan-Day, owner of Ryan Graphics. See designer’s website for work samples.

Logo development has become the focus for this designer. She has already received numerous awards for her logo work. In early 2007, the designer received notice that her work would be published in the upcoming “Big Book of Logos #5″, and then in March www.DesignFirms.org awarded Ryan Graphics for her Huggy Toys logo. In 2006, last June the 3rd annual www.Portfolios.com competition granted her the Merit Award in the logo category. And then www.DesignFirms.org awarded the designer during their September and November competition. Ms. Ryan-Day is hoping to build her client base and share her skills with business owners that appreciate good design. Her tagline, “Big Tricks for Small Budgets”, says it all.
