Adobe Systems Inc. announced that Adobe Photoshop Elements 6 software for Macintosh is available for an estimated street price of US$89.99.
The software is available for pre-order at the website www.adobe.com/go/buyphotoshop_elements_mac.
According to the company, the new features based on proprietary Photomerge technology let users easily combine the best facial expressions and body language from a series of shots to create a single, perfect group shot. The new Quick Selection Tool reduces the time-consuming select-and-adjust task to a single click, Adobe noted.
The company said the Photoshop Elements 6 software offers creative options to tell stories in fun and engaging ways. Customizable layouts let users create scrapbook pages, photo books, greeting cards and burn to CD/DVD for high impact sharing that requires no previous experience.

XChange International has unveiled updates for two of its popular software titles, BatchOutput and MBC4.
Output automation software BatchOutput automatically prints and exports to a range of formats including PDF, PostScript, EPS and InDesign.
New features in version 3.0 include compatibility with Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard, the ability to export to JPEG and EPS files and the option to overwrite output files with the same name.
Barcode utility MBC4 is available as a universal binary for the first time. The software produces barcodes as EPS files for use in a range of applications, including QuarkXPress, Photoshop, FreeHand and Illustrator.
As well as featuring new barcode types and greater support for the special features of EAN/UCC 128 barcodes, more than 200 barcode types are included in the package.

Windows, Linux users should download new Player; Apple patched Mac OS X’s version Monday
(Computerworld) — Adobe Systems Inc. patched its Flash Player earlier this week, fixing nine critical vulnerabilities that hackers could use to attack Windows, Mac and Linux machines.
“Multiple input validation errors have been identified in Flash Player 9.0.48.0 and earlier that could lead to the potential execution of arbitrary code,” Adobe said in the advisory posted on the company’s site. “These vulnerabilities could be accessed through content delivered from a remote location via the user’s Web browser, e-mail client or other applications that include or reference the Flash Player.”
Danish vulnerability tracker Secunia ASP collectively tagged the nine bugs as “highly critical,” its second-from-the-top threat ranking.

Microsoft on Friday released for download the final version of a plug-in that allows users of Adobe Photoshop digital imaging software to work with files created in Microsoft’s new HD Photo format.
The plug-in is intended for use with Photoshop CS2 or CS3 running on Windows XP or Windows Vista. Use with other versions or platforms aren’t officially supported, Microsoft said.

Adobe today quickly released the expected update to both the Mac and Windows versions of Photoshop Lightroom to version 1.3.1. Earlier this week the company had promised the update sometime next week.
Highlights of the update include:
• The Lightroom 1.3 Print Module could previously cause the application to crash on either OS X 10.5 or 10.5.1 during template usage.
• On Mac OS X 10.5 or 10.5.1, the import process from a card reader or other device into Lightroom could fail to import all or a portion of the selected images.
