Printing Tips for Small Business – Part 1

RGB vs. CMYK
RGB is a color build system used by your computer monitor to display full color. CMYK is the color space that commercial printing presses use to reproduce your printing project. RGB is Red, Green and Blue, while CMYK is Cyan (blue), Magenta (red), Yellow and Black. The final printed project that you see on your computer screen will not necessarily be the same exact colors reproduced by a high quality offset printing press. In most cases there won’t be a big difference, but there are some colors produced by an RGB monitor that cannot be reproduced via CMYK on a press.

Get Color Right – Spot Colors
Spot colors are used most frequently for one and two color jobs when an exact color needs to be repeatedly reproduced. Logos are perfect example spot colors. For example, if your logo needs a distinctive blue, tell your commercial printer your the Pantone® PMS color choice. This number is then matched on the press to deliver the exact result you need.

Pantone Matching System (PMS)
PMS is the popular Pantone® color matching system used by the printing industry to print spot colors. Most applications that support color printing allow you to specify colors by indicating the Pantone name or number. This assures that you get the right color when the file is printed, even though the color may not look right when displayed on your monitor. PMS works well for spot colors but not for process colors, which are generally specified using the CMYK color model.

The Writers Block (TWB) has broadened its portfolio by offering Adobe FrameMaker training through the TWB Online portal. The program titled TWB Online: Adobe FrameMaker Certification is targeted at individuals who are Technical Writers, Programmers or Professionals wanting to create or enhance help systems for desktop or Web-based applications. It is helpful to technical writing professionals who want to upgrade their skills with minimum investment of time and money. Adobe FrameMaker is the industry standard help authoring tool used by most technical writers. The three week program has been designed keeping in mind the sharp learning curve faced by technical writers at the beginning of a new project. The program is priced at US$ 275.

TWB Online: Adobe FrameMaker Certification uses TWB Online platform to deliver this training. The TWB Online training platform gives trainees a fully interactive training experience that allows them to interact with trainers in real time and amongst themselves by using the Adobe Flash demo’s, blogs, forums and comprehensive training material and calendars for scheduling and keeping track of assignments.

This is the third online offering to come from the TWB stable. This takes the total of TWB certifications and trainings to 15. TWB Online training has emerged as an effective training channel owing to effective exercises at the end of each unit and a practical yet simple approach to building an online help system.

Launching the program, Rakesh Shukla, Chief Executive Officer, TWB said, The TWB Online: Adobe FrameMaker Certification broadens the TWB portfolio and provides a skill enhancement opportunity to the technical writing professionals. There is a dearth of good training options in this space and TWB aims to be catalyst in bringing about a positive change.

Over Six hours of Tutorials on Building Accessible Sites

Lynda.com, the leader in self-paced digital media and design training, today introduced Web Accessibility Principles.

Accessibility on the web has been an issue for over a decade, and it remains a crucial–but often overlooked–element of web design. Instructor Zoe Gillenwater explains the concept of accessibility as it applies to the web, and describes how it affects the audience. She also covers how to set up accessibility testing, and how to apply accessibility principles to new and existing sites using standards-compliant markup and CSS. Exercise files accompany the tutorials.

“Many web developers are intimidated by the topic of accessibility, and don’t realize how much is accomplished just by writing semantic, standards-based HTML,” notes Lynda Weinman, CEO of lynda.com. “Zoe’s training is organized perfectly to help developers fill in the remaining blanks, test the accessibility of their work, and add these practices to their everyday workflows.”

Anyone with an internet connection can access Web Accessibility Principles by subscribing to lynda.com’s Online Training Library™. A separate CD-ROM version of Web Accessibility Principles is planned later this month.

Subscriptions to the lynda.com Online Training Library™ start at $25 a month, and provide access to over 22,000 movie tutorials covering more than 320 technology career tools, software applications, and techniques. Subscribers can access any of the computer-based training courses at their convenience. Multi-user subscriptions are also available for companies and institutions seeking to provide education and training to groups.

For free online samples of Web Accessibility Principles and more detailed product information, please visit http://movielibrary.lynda.com/html/modPage.asp?ID=448

Zoe Gillenwater is an experienced web designer, project manager, and technical author, active in the web standards community. She focuses on CSS, XHTML, Dreamweaver, and accessibility, as well as web page templates and forum support. Zoe is also the editor for Adobe’s CSS Advisor website. Due to her involvement with accessibility and other web standards, Zoe was invited to be a member of the Adobe Task Force of the advocacy group Web Standards Project (WaSP). As a government employee, she became skilled in not only ensuring Section 508 accessibility compliance for all her projects, but also going beyond to meet many of the W3C’s Web Accessibility Initiative WCAG guidelines.
Imagine being able to open any picture in Adobe® Photoshop® CS3, and being able to make it a pro-quality image in just seven simple steps. Scott Kelby’s 7-Point System for Adobe Photoshop CS3, the newest book by #1 bestselling computer and technology author Scott Kelby, does exactly that by revealing ?The System? that will change how millions of people use Photoshop.

The premise behind Scott Kelby’s 7-Point System for Adobe Photoshop CS3 is rooted in Scott?s study of Photoshop techniques over his many years as a photographer, designer, and instructor.
Stellenangebote
Scott discovered that there are just seven major features in Photoshop that one needs to achieve pro-quality images on a consistent basis. He then broke things down further and realized that of those seven major features, only certain parts or sections of those features really need to be mastered. Then, most importantly, he determined exactly when and in which order to apply these seven techniques to achieve outstanding results with every image.

Scott Kelby’s 7-Point System for Adobe Photoshop® CS3 is written in the same straightforward, fully-illustrated style as Kelby?s other best-selling ?how-to? books, such as The Digital Photography Book and The Adobe Photoshop Lightroom? Book for Digital Photographers. Scott starts his readers at square one, and as the book progresses he shows how to unleash each Photoshop function until his entire ?7-Point System? is second nature.

Scott Kelby?s 7-Point System for Adobe® Photoshop® CS3 is currently on Amazon.com, the Barnes & Noble website, and on Kelbytraining.com. The cover price for the new book is $49.99.

About Scott Kelby

Scott Kelby is the top-selling computer technology book author worldwide since 2004.
